Psychics at fair speak of the supernatural

Rochester Democrat & Chronicle
Meaghan M. McDermott
January 31, 2005

Things going bump in the night was one reason Kelly Breen decided to stop by on Sunday at the 25th Annual International Psychic Fair at the Clarion Hotel Riverside.

"Our father passed away about a year ago, and there have been some strange things happening in the night," said Breen, of Boston, as she waited in line for a tarot card reading. She came to the fair with her sister, Patty Breen of Caledonia, Livingston County. "We're hearing glasses breaking; the lights are flickering. We think Dad might be around."

Unfinished business with a departed loved one is one of many reasons people consult with psychics, spiritualists and mediums, said Geraldine Branch of Pontiac, Mich. A third-generation spiritualist, who channels both the living and the dead,  (more)...

Making sense of second sight

Jan 27 2005
By Barbara Argument-Evening Gazette
The first time Sharon Neill was challenged about her amazing psychic powers she replied: "I'm not a medium. I'm a size 10!"
She swears it's "God's honest truth. That's how little I knew about it."
This is a woman who insists she had no idea of her sixth sense until a few years ago.
Now she tells us she has a list of celebrity clients as long as your arm, clamouring for her readings.
They include The Corrs, Coldplay, Ash, James C Nesbitt of Cold Feet fame and one-time Page 3 girl, Melinda Messenger.
She has been blind from birth, but can describe colours and objects which she has never seen.
She is a clairvoyant who claims to channel messages from beyond the grave to comfort grieving relatives.

By TIM ENGLE
The Kansas City Star
Wed, Oct. 27, 2004

You're supposed to use your Ouija board to contact the dearly departed, like Elvis or Marilyn Monroe or Millard Fillmore. Right?

Thing is, some of us never got that memo. Some of us were 10 years old and playing Ouija with our gray-haired grandmas, asking deep questions like: "Will it snow enough tonight so school will be canceled tomorrow?" ...full story

The 'Beckham of mediums' turns back on TV fame

STEPHEN BREEN
Sun 24 Oct 2004

TO BELIEVERS, he is one of Britain's most brilliant mediums. To sceptics, he performs little more than an intriguing sideshow.

What cannot be denied is that Scots psychic Gordon Smith is a rising star. His latest book hit the number two spot on Amazon.com, and he recently appeared in a BBC documentary in which he stunned a crowd by reeling off apparently accurate names and details of bereavements to strangers.

But Smith - dubbed the 'Beckham of mediums' - has decided it is time to turn his back on TV celebrity. Last night he launched a stinging attack on television bosses for trying to turn him into little more than a performer.  feature article here

By Victor Zammit

"Every person has a fundamental legal right to have her/his reputation protected." International Covenants on Human Rights and Civil Law.

Scientists' unethical use of media for propaganda purposes

Brian David Josephson
Cambridge Professor, Nobel Prize in Physics

1. A TV demonstration is 'fixed'

Many viewers of a recent Discovery Channel programme, previewed in a Guardian article, where the claims of Natasha Demkina, a 17-year-old Russian girl who says she is able to "look deep inside people's bodies, watch their organs at work and spot when things are going wrong", were investigated, ended up with a strong impression that the main test in the investigation had been deliberately set up with a view to ensuring that she would fail it. ...full story about the article shown below

Why scientists find diagnoses of 'x-ray' girl hard to stomach

Natasha's claim to see inner ills excites media but fails experts' test
Ian Sample, science correspondent

The Guardian

Natasha Demkina has a lot of explaining to do. Sat with her mother and younger sister in a bright London office, the 17-year-old from Saransk, a rundown town 400 miles east of Moscow, seems the typical teenager. But less typically, Natasha claims she possesses an unusual gift. She can, she says, look deep inside people's bodies, watch their organs at work and spot when things are going wrong....more

I can see dead people

Sep 22, 2004
By Diane Parks, Evening Mail

John Routley is your everyday kind of guy. Middle aged, slightly balding and dressed in T-shirt and trousers, he is not a man you would give a second glance in the street. By day he has a full-time and responsible job working as a trainer with West Midlands Fire Service, he lives with his partner Maureen Hughes and he cares about cats.

But he also has a hobby which is rather out of the ordinary - when he has a moment, he talks to dead people... more at the Evening Mail
